Words for You
WORDS FOR YOU
Power of consistency
Try running with your hands — how convenient! Now get up and try running with your legs, it’s simple, right?
Our ancestors have been running on their legs for years. Today, it has gone beyond habit, it has become a lifestyle. I bet it wasn’t easy trying to walk upright, but they did it anyways and were consistent until they perfected it.
When water keeps dropping on a particular spot on a stone, give it time, it will make a dent. It will only take time, but surely it will. Consistency is powered by focus, determination, and discipline. The difficult task becomes second nature, if not habitual, after a while. Both good and bad habits are formed in the same way. They eventually become a lifestyle.
How to be consistent
Get interested. Leave yourself with no choice. Do it once, twice, and again, even if it is not convenient. Get up every day and do it. As time goes on, with consistency
You’ll get better; it will become an habit, then a lifestyle, then second nature.
What is that thing you want to do? Get up and do it! You don’t need too much motivation! The motivation you have right now is okay. Get up and just show up. Just do it. Then be consistent. Plan it out. This is very important.
Count the Cost
In addition, find out the cost of your greatness. Ask, “How long will it take to master this?” “What do I have to give up?” “What amount of work do I need to put in?”
Do your research and find out.
Chart your course
Now pick up your pen. Write it down. Yes, put it all down plainly. Draw your flight plan. Sketch the course for your ship; don’t rush to set sail first. The next step is to fit your plan into your lifestyle for the time it will take you to master it. Good success takes time. Rome was not built in a day, it took dedicated people a lot of hard and smart work as well as considerable time. Fit it all into your daily or weekly schedule and routine. Spread it out and sprinkle a bit of it into your everyday life. Now, create a reward system for yourself when you achieve even the smallest milestones. Tell yourself you are doing well, bro. Get your favorite movie and watch it, then get back to work. Take yourself out to your favorite restaurant, order that nice meal, and eat. Then get back to work. In your mind, be resolute and gritty. Tell yourself it’s either this or nothing. Go hard or go home.
“Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, so that he who readeth it may run, says Habakuk the Prophet. You need to look at the end from the beginning. Feel the good feelings you’ll have at the end. Enjoy how the achievement of that vision will make you feel. Now snap out of it, and get to work! It gets better as you go, not as you start. Just do the work. Do it now.
Take it personally
Link your success and accomplishments to something personal. Consider the terms “family,” “self actualization,” “self satisfaction,” “rising social status,” and so on. Tie it to something personal to you. For example, “if I achieve this, I will be better positioned to help my mom and ease her of the burdens of so so so…” , “if I achieve this, it will prepare me for so so so”. You can make it a vendetta if you wish. For example, tell yourself, “God punish poverty(sic).” “It’s time to make legit money and shame poverty,” Then get up and do your research, read books, go online, and find out how to make legit money and shame poverty.
Get up! Start now!
There is no better time to begin than right now. “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago and he second best time is now,” says a Chinese proverb. What are you still doing there, sis? Get up and get your hands in the dirt. Walk the talk. Remember to work smartly by doing a lot of research and leveraging relationships and technology. Learn from others, join a network of people of like minds. Don’t repeat the mistakes of those before you. Stand on their shoulders. Be accountable. All in all, when all is said and done, you might still fail. Don’t remain on the floor like a “cry baby (sic)”. Cry if you will, but get up and try again. Find out what made you fall, correct it, then get up and try again.
In conclusion, realize that it takes consistency. Also, count the cost and plan it out carefully! Go ahead and take that course, read that book, do your research and sharpen your axe, leverage relationships and technology, learn from others, make it personal, go hard and go smart, and then do it consistently till you master it.
